At the beginning of the pandemic, when people were locked down at home, many were predicting a baby boom.

Turns out the opposite is true.

The birth rate dropped 4% over the past year – the largest yearly decline in births since 1973.

And according to a new study, it seems that the pandemic has many women rethinking how many (if any) children they want to have. There are a number of reasons why women are changing their minds about having kids – including economic stress and worries about climate change.

Another big factor? Women don’t want to go through a pregnancy (and hospitalization for delivery) during a pandemic.
